Needs to be fixed

I have been using Springy just fine for over a year now when I started getting the “No document could be created” issue. I have read your response to this problem and I have tried both steps 1 and step 2 with no success, so step 3 claims that I have to re-install my OS just to get your App to work that I paid for.

Springy is the ONLY application I am having problems with and I am not about to re-install my OS just for one app.

That is a terrible solution. Since everything on my computer works perfectly except Springy, you need to find out what the problem is. It is an easy solution to just tell your customers to wipe their system and start over, but that is not going to happen.

I have tried 4 other archive programs and they all work perfectly, so why on earth would I have to re-install when other apps that do the same thing as Springy still work?

Hello Jonathan,

I really apologise for the inconvenience you’re having with Springy. But I’m afraid the situation stays the same. It seems something went terribly wrong with Launch Service database for some users (four of them reported this problem, you included). According to detailed description of application behaviour in these situations, the control doesn’t even reach my code, an error is reported even before the main .nib file has been loaded into the memory. Of course, this explanation doesn’t have to be necessarily true, that’s just my conclusion from the description I’ve got.

I haven’t responded to your message earlier, because I’ve set up a dedicated machine to try to reproduce the issue and investigate it further. For the past two weeks I’ve been doing all the things that came to my mind to try to corrupt the Launch Service database (maybe the “corruption” is not the right word, let’s say I tried to put the database into the state that would reproduce the error). Needless to say, I haven’t succeeded to reproduce. As long as I cannot do it, I won’t be able to investigate what goes wrong. I’ve tried to find similar problems on the Internet, but without success. The only explanation is the one from the official Apple documentation, saying the error appears due to “not having the right NSDocument
subclass instance mapped into the appropriate document file in the “Info.plist” file”, which is not the case, all users reporting the problem had regular “Info.plist” inside the application bundle.

So at the moment, I don’t know the other solution to the problem, except for re-installing the system, no matter how terrible that solution is. I completely understand you may be not willing to do so (just for one archiving utility). In that case, I’ve got no other option but to offer you a full refund on your purchase. If you want to go that route, please let me know and I’ll arrange it immediately.

I have the same issue but when I lunch guest account the problem disappears how can I use this to fix my problem

That’s very interested Sultan, I didn’t realise the problem is related to user domain, not system wide.

Do you back up your home folder (or at least parts of it you find most important) regularly using Time Machine or some other back-up software? If so, try to login as Administrator, delete your regular working account (and choose option to delete that user’s home directory), create a new account (with the same name), and than restore all data in the home folder from the back-up.

Please let me know whether this helps.

Same issue.
I used CleanApp (from synium) to delete the app and your app seems to be so intricated in the system and other apps that it’s quite silly to delete it. I’m really disappointed.

I’m sorry that you’re very disappointed, but if the reason for it is that Springy is so intricated in the system, then you shouldn’t be, because that’s not true! I use CleanApp myself, and as good as it is, very often it offers to delete a lot of files which are not even remotely associated with the application you want to delete (this happens especially if you have enabled so-called logging feature). Sometimes CleanApp offers to delete even documents you’ve created with the application you want to delete!

There are only two or three files (two if you don’t use SpringyCM contextual menu plug-in and you certainly cannot use it it you run Snow Leopard) you need to delete to uninstall Springy, and it is clearly explained on this page, under “Uninstalling procedure”. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing intricated in the system at all.

As of the problem you also experience, I’m very sorry that I can’t reproduce it. It clearly comes from corruption of user LaunchService database. Please try what I suggested in my response above.
